The Grounding Behind the Work
Pastor Robin Reeves Kautz is an Episcopal priest and visual theologian. Through painting, prayer, and creative spiritual practices, she explores how God’s grace, hope, love, and presence can be revealed through ordinary life.
The Image That Inspired the Layers
God reaching toward Adam. Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam became a foundational image for this collection. While these abstracts do not clearly show this grace-filled image, it was very much the inspiration that undergirds them.
The space between God’s hand and Adam’s hand matters. God reaches first. Grace is offered, but not forced. There is dignity, freedom, and a choice to receive. The paintings explore what happens when we respond to that reaching with a “yes.”
Benedictine Spirituality
Benedictine spirituality is another grounding presence in this work: listen, notice, receive, remain, hope, begin again. It invites us to slow down and pay attention to God in the ordinary—to trust that what is beneath the surface may be worth discovering.
Hope is not pretending that everything is fine. It is trusting God’s presence and mercy when the whole picture has not yet been revealed. These works invite us to look slowly, notice what emerges, and remain open to the next revealing.
Grace is beneath the surface. Hope is already here. And there is always more being revealed.
